GE markets multiple Opal versions, including the original Opal, Opal 2.0, Opal 2.0 Ultra and versions with or without side tanks. Their capacities, accessories and model numbers differ. Daily output is not bin storage
GE lists production of up to 38 pounds of ice per day for the Opal 2.0 XL, while its product comparison gives the related Opal 2.0 a 3-pound storage bin. Those figures describe different things. The first is an upper production rate under specified conditions; the second is how much finished ice the bin holds at a time. An ice maker that can produce many pounds over a day does not store that amount all at once. For a party, plan to transfer ice to a freezer-safe container if you need a larger reserve.
GE says meltwater can recirculate into the reservoir. That helps the unit continue making ice, but it also means the ice bin is not a freezer. Ice can soften or melt rather than remain frozen indefinitely. Think of the appliance as a fresh-ice producer, not long-term frozen storage. If the household already has a freezer ice maker and uses only a few cubes a day, this may be an expensive second machine.
Measure the counter before checkout

Maintenance belongs in the budget

Budget for cleaning supplies and replacement filters where applicable. Hard water may mean more attention to mineral buildup.
Place the unit where spills can be wiped promptly and the tank can be removed without dragging a heavy appliance. A machine with water, moving parts and a fan will also make noise. Consider whether a kitchen, office or bedroom-adjacent counter is a suitable location for it.
