Melissa & Doug Fire Truck Activity Board Recall: How to Identify It and Claim a Remedy
About 84,000 Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board toys sold exclusively at Target are being recalled because a small fire-hose port can detach and create a choking hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on September 17, 2026. The agency says consumers should stop using the affected Melissa & Doug activity board immediately. The black plastic connector designed to look like a fire-hose port can loosen and detach, creating a small part that may pose a serious choking risk.
Melissa & Doug reported 26 incidents in which the port came loose and one report of a minor cut, according to the CPSC notice. The products were sold at Target stores nationwide and on Target.com from July 2025 through August 2026 for about $30.
How to identify the recalled toy
The recall covers the Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board, a compact red plastic fire-engine toy with four black wheels, a white rotating ladder and busy-board activities that activate lights and sounds. It measures about 10.5 inches high, 14.31 inches wide and 3.06 inches deep.
Turn the toy over and inspect the battery compartment. “Melissa & Doug” is embossed on the battery box, along with two date wheels showing the manufacturing year and month. Affected units have one date-wheel arrow pointing to 25 and the other pointing to 4 or 5, or one arrow pointing to 26 and the other pointing to 3.

Compare your toy with the photographs on the official CPSC recall page. Do not rely on color alone, and do not assume that every Melissa & Doug fire-truck toy is included.
What owners should do now
Remove the activity board from children and stop using it. Register through Melissa & Doug’s official recall page or call the company at 800-718-5365, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
The announced remedies are a free replacement activity board, a $30 refund by check, or a $40 credit for melissaanddoug.com. Follow the company’s instructions before altering or discarding the toy.
How the remedy process works
The CPSC notice says registered consumers will receive a unique code. Owners will be instructed to remove the batteries, write “RECALL” and the unique code on the front of the product, and cut off the black hose. They will then upload a photograph of the altered toy to the recall registration page.
After registration is confirmed, consumers will be directed to place the product in ordinary household trash. Keep a copy of the confirmation and any claim number until the selected remedy arrives.
